Adopting

    Requirements for adoption

To adopt a cat or dog you have to meet certain requirements as we do not aim to let anyone adopt an animal, but only those who will provide animals with normal living conditions. When adopting an animal, one has to sign the contract on responsible ownership which you may download here.

To adopt a dog or cat you have to know that:

  • they are not toys for you or your children to play with while they are small and then to get rid of them once you get bored with them,

  • animals are living beings that suffer and feel pain so they need your care and attention,

  • if you live in a flat, dogs have to be taken for a walk and run daily,

  • if you live in a house, dogs may be kept in the yard provided it is fenced and it has an appropriate box and/or house,

  • it is forbidden to keep dogs on a short leash or in a small box,

  • it is obligatory to have animals neutered (castrated/desexed) in the course of the first six months, i.e. when a vet decides it could be done if an animal has not been neutered,

  • it is obligatory to have animals microchipped, registered and vaccinated against rabies (state regulations),

  • it is obligatory to provide animals with a yearly veterinary checkup as well as vaccination against contagious diseases,

  • it is forbidden to give animals to the third party without our consent.

The above requirements may seem to be too much, but people who are fond of animals and have had a pet before know it is quite normal.

NOTE: all cats and dogs we shelter are free. We are a non-profit organization and all we do is on a voluntary basis. Of course, if you want, you can help us by providing food or making donations to help us take care of other animals. To find out more about this, please visit donations page.
